New high-end MS instruments available at NAPI

In December 2022, two NAPI nodes were simultaneously granted institutional funding from the UiO instrument call to purchase two novel, high-end MS instruments. One at the Proteomics Core Facitlity, (Dr. Tuula Nyman - UiO-OUS) while Prof. Trine Grønhaug Halvorsen and Prof. Leon Reubsaet (Dept. of Pharmacy, UiO) received funding for the other instrument. This institutional funding is essential to maintain and further develop state-of-the art research and proteomics service at NAPI.

The Proteomics Core Facility (PCF) at UiO-OUS will add to its current instrument park a novel timsTOF PRO2 instrument from Bruker. The Core Facility has already a timsTOF fleX instrument which is in high demand among customers for LC-MS analysis due to it’s ion mobility dimension and deep proteome coverage. The addition of a timsTOF PRO2 to the PCF instrument park will increase the analysis capacity of the core facility and enable better use of the dual ESI/MALDI ion source capabilities of the fleX instrument with establishing of MALDI analysis as service, with focus on MALDI imaging.

The Department of Pharmacy has long been in need of a high-resolution MS instrument that can enable sensitive and accurate protein determinations after retirement of their previous high-resolution MS more than two years ago. The purchase, a Vanquish Neo / Orbitrap Exploris 120 system will benefit several research projects within advanced sample handling of proteins from biological matrices.
